Do you need more general contractor leads? If you’re a General Contractor, you’re likely always looking for ways to get more and better leads for your business.
After all, how much revenue you make depends on how many jobs you can win, and how many jobs you can win depends on how many qualified leads you can find.
You may be noticing that the marketing and advertising strategies you’ve leveraged for the past five and ten years no longer work as well for your business.
Perhaps the customers aren’t rolling in the door, or over the phone lines, like they used to. It’s getting tougher and more expensive to find new jobs right?
Sending direct mail marketing coupons not getting the response it once did? Maybe your newspaper ads aren’t getting any response?
There’s a new age in advertising and it’s a massive opportunity for general contractors. What is this opportunity that can provide general contractors leads, cheaper and faster than anywhere else? It’s Facebook ads.
General Contractor Leads using Facebook Ads – Why it’s important
In my opinion, there are three very specific reasons why general contractors should be using Facebook ads as a primary source of finding new leads. There are specifics and intricacies to the items mentioned below, but the purposes of this article is really to enlighten you to the opportunity of getting more general contractor leads via Facebook advertising.
Why you, as a general contractor, should leverage Facebook ads for more leads breaks down to these three reasons below:
1. Massive Reach
If you didn’t know, there are now over 1.94 BILLION active Facebook users. Granted, not all 1.94 billion are local to your area and the ideal prospects for your contracting business, but you can bet that the majority of people in your area are utilizing Facebook.
If there is a future customer you’re trying to reach, there’s a high probability that you can find them and reach them on Facebook.
Look into the mirror and ask yourself, is there another place, anywhere, where I can reach as many people as Facebook? Maybe Google? That’s it. There really is no where else on the planet that has the scale that Facebook does from a reach and audience perspective.

Take the graphic above as an example. Facebook is incredibly well diversified across the demographics in the United States, which provides general contractors a vast pool of the population to find your ideal customer.
You don’t have to take my word for it, simply look at the stats. If there is a potential customer out there you’d like to advertise to, they’re likely on Facebook.
2. Laser Targeting
So we’ve talked about how massive the reach and scale of Facebook is. However, the real beauty of the advertising platform on Facebook is the ability to get laser targeted with who you are targeting.
Unfortunately not all 2 billion Facebook users are going to buy from you. However, Facebook provides you with the tools and identifiers to “slice and dice” the audience data to find exactly the people you want to serve your advertisements to, so you can be much more effective.
Let’s say your average client is a married couple, between the ages of 30-55, that lives within a 10 mile radius of your town, and makes between $200,000 – $300,000/year.
With Facebook, you can target those people! Like really laser target them.
Not only do you reach the audience you actually want to get your message out to, but you also avoid wasting money on people who aren’t a good fit.
To get an understanding of the extent of the targeting options, check out the infographic (click to expand, it’s huge!) on the right from from WordStream.
Here are some options in which you can target on Facebook:
- Location
- Age
- Gender
- Education Level
- Relationship status
- Income
- Home type (Single family, condo, apartment, etc)
- Home Ownership (Own, rent or first-time home buyer)
- Parents
- Life events (New job, recently moved, etc)
- Job Role (Corporate Executives, Financial Professionals, etc)
That’s just a smattering of some of the targeting options that doesn’t even begin to get into the finer details of things, but as you can see, the options are nearly endless. Especially in the general contracting space, you’re really able to hone in on your target customer.
Imagine being able to specifically target the options above to get more general contractor leads, from people who would actually be a good fit for your business. Don’t want tire kickers? Target Facebook users by income. Only want to work on single family houses? You can target it!
3. Measurable ROI
It’s important to remember that with any advertising strategy, the ultimate goal is to make more money from the advertisements than we’re spending. Shocking revelation right? But people somehow forget all the time.
Everyone tends to get caught up in the hot new trend of the moment and following what the competition is doing, but they lose sight of the fact that the key is profitable advertising investments. More general contractor leads are great, but if they’re not profitable to your business, who cares?!
So what does Facebook advertising have to do with this?
Well, with Facebook, it’s very easy to measure the return on investment. Why? Because Facebook provides you with countless data points and the ability to track how much everything is costing you.
For example, let’s say we’re running advertisements specifically for new leads in your local area.
We’ve created a Facebook advertisement that directs prospective customers to a landing page, where they can download a coupon for your services, once they input their email and phone number. Each prospective customer that inputs their information is a “Lead Conversion” in Facebook terminology.
Facebook will actually measure how much it costs you to get each new lead and average it out for you, to say something like $10/lead.
The benefit to something like this is… If you know your customer lifetime value, or average sale price, you can easily determine the profitability of your Facebook Ads. Use the graphic below of how a potential Facebook Ad return on investment might look like for a general contractor.
Does direct mail marketing or newspapers give you that type of information? Not a chance! And even if it somehow did, you really wouldn’t have any way of determining those numbers because a direct mail company will never be able to provide you with an accurate assessment.
